The Third Man (Criterion Blu-ray)
This title in particular has been the subject of a good deal of controversy on Elsewhere (among other sites), message boards, and email lists across the web. No one seems to talk about much aside from the "Grain Issue." Since the grain (or overabundance thereof) is the obvious elephant in the room, I'm going to address it before getting on to the additional content on display here, of which there is much to see and thoroughly enjoy. Defamer on the poem

I missed this Defamer echo (posted yesterday) about that disgruntled making-of-Transformers poem. My fault for going to a play yesterday afternoon (Liev Schreiber in Talk Radio) instead of staying at my desk at Starbucks on Lex and 85th.

Speaking of hack directors, looks like they got one to remake Straw Dogs. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ic8a667db1a35f3a07da8a575da19d399

I think Lurie is a friend of Wells's.

How's Liev in the role? Is Bogosian involved in the revival (i.e. updating the play to 2007 or is it still in the original period)?

Not sure what Jeff thought, but I really enjoyed 'Talk Radio,' mainly for Liev's performance. The man can do anything and is really hitting his stride as one of the great American stage actors. I read somewhere about Bogosian's involvement and I can't remember how extensive it was...I think it's more or less the original text. It's a good play, not a great one, but it has a great part, which Liev nails.

Liev was amazing in last year's B'way revival of GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS; he seemed to be imitating Dan Aykroyd's old E. Buzz Miller character from SNL, yet it worked like a charm. I have tix to TALK RADIO next month and can't wait.
