The Third Man (Criterion Blu-ray)
This title in particular has been the subject of a good deal of controversy on Elsewhere (among other sites), message boards, and email lists across the web. No one seems to talk about much aside from the "Grain Issue." Since the grain (or overabundance thereof) is the obvious elephant in the room, I'm going to address it before getting on to the additional content on display here, of which there is much to see and thoroughly enjoy. Keillor on Altman

In an 11.23 L.A. Times piece about Robert Altman, Prairie Home Companion creator Garrison Keillor says when they first met he "tried to interest him in making a movie about a man coming back to Minnesota to bury his father, a winter movie. 'There haven't been many movies made in winter,' I said. And Altman replied, "You would quickly find out why.' He declined. 'In the end,' he said, 'the death of an old man is not a tragedy.'" (Joe Leydon sent me the call-out.)

Thrudvangar Author Profile Page says ...

But Affliction and The Sweet Hereafter are both on my all-time-favorite movies list. Both are based on novels by Russell Banks.
