The Devil Wears Prada did better that expected last night -- $9.1 million with a projected $27.8 million by Sunday night. Earlier this week it was being projected to pull in a weekend figure in the low 20s, but tracking began to really accelerate over the last few days, especially (obviously) among women, and not just 20-somethings. Adam Sandler's Click, a film for the ages, was off 57% from last Friday for a $6,173,000 haul -- a 47% dip is being projected for the weekend. Cars did $4 million and Nacho Libre earned $1,741,000.

I hope this can be Meryl's first real comedy hit
and she hears OSCAR calling her name in February!

don't underestimate the numbers/power of the generation of young girls who grew up with The Princess Diaries...they want to grow with Anne Hathaway as she enters into the cool, adult world the movie portrays.

Much like DA VINCI CODE, PRADA is based on a best selling book. It may not have the huge best selling numbers, but a lot of people read that book - and they've come out for the movie. So everybody cram that "tracking" crap for now.

Absolutely fantastic news for Prada. It's per screen average is only about $1000 less than Superman. Kudos to Fox marketing.

I love Anne's tits. Can I say that here? Brokeback Mtn. was the best pic of 2005. The tits were worth the gay stuff. Not that there's...

In in Chicago and I was at an early afternoon showing of "Devil" on Friday and the place was sold-out. When I went to the bathroom, I looked in the Superman Returns theater and it was only half-full. I don't think the Devil's gross will be higher but the per screen average may beat or be close to SR.
And yes, I loved the movie but then again, I am a homosexual and in the target demographic. I will definitely see it again. It was the perfect summer movie and the clothes, OH MY GOD!

So right about the clothes! The movie was total formula but nice, gorgeous over-the-top formula with shots of Fifth Avenue and Paris, clothes straight out of Vogue, and most importantly, the wonderfully arch tones of Tucci and Streep. They should do a followup movie, substitute any young actress for Hathaway, and keep THEM. Delicious!

Practically every woman I know is planning to see this picture, and they won't be disappointed. It's pure pleasure for fans of Streep and/or Hathaway. Potentially good news for WB: A couple of the women in my office rushed out to see SUPERMAN RETURNS on Tuesday night and they liked it a lot. They were even discussing taking a second look, primarily because they thought Mr. Routh was da bomb.

Looks like PRADA dipped from Friday to Saturday somewhat. That's unusual for a non-genre film. Guess that means that the book's fans, among others, thronged to see it on opening day.
I like adult movies, and hopes this does well, but I don't think word of mouth is gonna help this one. Hope I'm wrong.
