The Third Man (Criterion Blu-ray)
This title in particular has been the subject of a good deal of controversy on Elsewhere (among other sites), message boards, and email lists across the web. No one seems to talk about much aside from the "Grain Issue." Since the grain (or overabundance thereof) is the obvious elephant in the room, I'm going to address it before getting on to the additional content on display here, of which there is much to see and thoroughly enjoy. Okay, okay....finally seeing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest tomorrow night. (I didn't mean to put it that way. I meant to say "oh, wow!!") And finally seeing Superman Returns in 3D IMAX this evening.

Jeff,

Don't ever change. Seriously. I love the fact that you're so open and honest about your biases and preconceptions. All critics and lovers of film have them, you're just one of the only ones to be up front about it.

Here's hoping POTC is as soul-sucking and empty-headed as both you and I want it to be. (You for obvious reasons, me cause I can't wait to read your take on its horrible-ness tomorrow)

$10 says that Jeff says that it isn't as bad as he thought it would be. :)

SPOILER: ............... my wife loved the first movie and especially loves Johnny Depp, and it's all I can do to restrain myself from telling her the plot twist that occurs at the end of this second movie.

Jeffrey, I just hope you give us your honest opinion after actually seeing the film. ... If it's not as vacuous as you have been led to believe, let us know!

my thoughts EXACTLY.
I can just imagine Jeff saying that and it's fantasticly sarcastic! why you don't have a tv show already is a crime!
I mean, watching Ebert and Roeper is nice, but they aren't as fun anymore now that Ebert has reset the bar for good taste(Garfield thumbs up? wtf?!)and Roeper isn't far behind. I think a show with Jeff as sole host would be great. He could review movies and then maybe go on a rant about it. He could also have call ins and then bring on guests assoaited with the movie (actors, directors, etc)or fellow reviewers so as to get a wide view of it.

The local guy in Dallas-Gary Cogil- did almost the exact same format for a while, but it got canceled soon afterwards. I think it had to do with timeslot-12:30am on sat or sun night- and maybe a bit of the host himself. He is a really nice guy with great opinions, but the show often felt like it wasn't really going anywhere half the time.
I think maybe Jeff could go to AMC or maybe go the Ebert route and go syndicated.

##GROAN#*#...
WHY? Just why? You don't HAVE to see it. No one's holding a gun to your head.

You are going to hate it. You are biologically incapable of not hating it, and then becoming angry and holier than thou about all the dummies who like it. And then harrumpfing endlessly about it. Please. Ignore the 'Loose Canon' brigade who posted above. Let it go.

But if you must see it, get liquored up before hand. You might fall asleep....and spare everyone the aggravation....
